London Pie & Mash Shops
|
Visiting London in a couple of weeks and fancy a P&M. Unfortunately literally all the ones I used to go in seem to have shut down over the past few years.
Googling seems very unreliable, throwing up loads of outdated info, and a Time Out article from less than 12 months ago contains 2 which were closed last time I was in town.
Preferably quite central (staying in the West end). Seems there's a Cookes in Hoxton but hoping it's not presenting itself as a hipster gluten free type place?
Thanks in advance, any info appreciated, yfc, discuss etc. Thanks

There's one in Camden called Castle's which isn't too far from the west end- 10 mins on the tube?
It's completely family run though, so there's a chance they might be on holiday- when they are the place is just shut for a week or two.

Think there's one in shepherds bush. There's a manzes in chapel market, although it's meant to be closing some time soon.

Manze's in Chapel Market Islington is closing at the end of the year and the owner is moving to new premises in Braintree.

Not the easiest from the West End, but Goddards in Greenwich will sort you out. Bit more tourist friendly than your usual but the P&M is genuine enough.

Goddards is good. Been there a few times when in Greenwich. Half the price of almost anywhere else to eat round there as well!

Cookes Hoxton Market is proper.
I regularly go in there. Definitely NOT hipster. Best pies in London.
Goddards is an abomination with their ice cream scoops for mash, knives and forks (knives in a pie and mash shop for fuck's sake!) and assorted pie fillings gravy and other sorts of rot.. They need to be fucked off into the river.

Taz, I've actually never tried Arments, would love to and was thinking of it but I'll be with a few people doing the tourist thing and dunno if a bus ride down the Walworth Rd would be the sort of thing to take day trippers on! Since its definitely still open I'll see if they're open on the Sunday. Thanks.
Cheers everyone else. Goddards is looking likely. Will update you all in case anyone gives a toss.
And Swiss, tell your mum/dad I deleted her number, and no we're not together. Sorry.

More especially don't go because the Tower Bridge one is now shut for business like the one in Peckham.
